Can you share a bit about yourself, just an introduction and what you do?

ANDREEA M

I'm Andreea Magdalina, originally from Romania, lived in London for a while, graduated from university there, and worked in music tech for about six or seven years. Eventually, I made my way to LA, where I'd been residing for the better part of eight years. I am currently the CEO and founder of "She Said So". Additionally, I run an agency with my partner, focusing on artist management and special projects. Currently, our main client on the agency side is Coachella, where I lead their community strategy as part of the innovation team.

What inspired you to pursue a journey in music or the music industry?

ANDREEA M

It was quite accidental. As a child, I initially planned to pursue the typical career paths like becoming a lawyer or doctor. However, just as I was preparing for law school, I realized I could attend university in any country. This led me to study multimedia studies in London. At that point, I didn't have a clear career path, but my love for music, especially underground electronic music, grew. Attending festivals and events, I developed relationships with promoters who eventually suggested I could turn my passion into a career. Inspired by this, I shifted my focus to the music industry, particularly tech, and found a music tech startup in London, merging my passions for music and technology.

"I was part of a women's community in tech, where I saw the power of women coming together to support each other."

In terms of the London music scene and the LA music scene, do you find differences or similarities?

ANDREEA M

There are major differences. The London scene is smaller but a leader in the music industry space. London has various micro-communities and movements, like the significant genre grime, which hasn't translated well outside the UK. On the business level, there are similarities, especially with the internet and social media creating a more homogenous approach to music movements globally. LA has become a hub for music artists, offering access to top studios, recording engineers, and producers.

Tell us about "she said so" and how the idea came to you.

ANDREEA M

"She Said So" was born in 2014 when the concept of community was closely tied to the tech space. My first job in music was as a community manager at a London music startup, and the role was often misunderstood. However, I was part of a women's community in tech, where I saw the power of women coming together to support each other. A frustrating experience in a meeting in London triggered the idea to create a similar space for women in the music industry, addressing the lack of diversity and inclusion. The community grew rapidly through word of mouth, and "She Said So" was established to provide a platform for women in the music business.

"Passion for the mission is crucial"

How do you ensure "she said so" maintains its vision and objectives over time?

ANDREEA M

Maintaining the vision for "She Said So" is an ongoing challenge. The main mission revolves around diversity, equity, and equality for all beyond gender. While the mission remains constant, the approach to achieving it evolves annually. By listening to the community, developing ideas, consulting with members, and prioritizing initiatives, the organization adapts to the changing landscape. The process is fluid, and constant feedback helps identify different priorities and initiatives each year.

Passion for the mission is crucial. Team members need to align with the organization's values and demonstrate proactive engagement. Kindness and empathy are also essential soft skills, as they contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment. "The courage to explore the world beyond my humble background and challenge traditional career paths defined my journey."

M SOUNDZ

How do you balance your schedule and maintain work-life harmony?

ANDREEA M

As an entrepreneur, I don't have a rigid schedule, allowing flexibility for unexpected changes. Each week, I identify priority tasks requiring deep concentration and allocate time accordingly. While maintaining a strategic approach, I acknowledge the need for flexibility in handling calls and unforeseen events. In the past, I struggled with workaholism, prioritizing work over personal life. However, realizing the importance of balance, I now make time for rest, personal activities, and trips to maintain mental health and happiness.

M SOUNDZ

Can you share your favorite artists or music right now?

ANDREEA M

Aside from "she said so," my agency represents artists, and I'm biased toward them. Tom VR and Suchi, both UK-based electronic music producers, and Bianco, an LA-based producer with a focus on soul psychedelic, and alternative R&B, are among my current favorites. Bianco has worked with the talented artist Baby Rose, whom I highly recommend checking out.

"Boundaries ensure that work-related challenges don't spill over into personal life"

M SOUNDZ

For those who can't imagine working with their partners, any advice to avoid conflicts?

ANDREEA M

Establishing and sticking to boundaries is crucial when working with a partner. Clearly defining professional and personal aspects helps maintain a healthy balance. Communication, understanding, and recognizing each other's strengths contribute to a successful partnership. Boundaries ensure that work-related challenges don't spill over into personal life, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
